For weeks, Ukraine has been pleading for this. Why therefore is the West being so reluctant, and how might these missiles affect the war?
such as Storm Shadow: What is it?
The maximum range of the Anglo-French cruise missile Storm Shadow is approximately 250 km (155 miles). It’s known as Scalp in French.
After being launched from an airplane, it follows the terrain at nearly the speed of sound before descending and detonating its high explosive warhead.
Storm Shadow is thought to be the best weapon for breaking through reinforced bunkers and ammo depots, such those that Russia utilized in its conflict.
However, since each missile costs close to $1 million (£767,000), as Russia did to Ukraine, they are typically fired as part of a well-planned barrage of far less expensive drones that are deployed ahead to confuse and deplete the enemy’s air defenses.
Britain and France have already sent these missiles to Ukraine, but only on the condition that Kyiv use them only against targets inside its own boundaries.
They have been quite effective, striking Russia’s Black Sea naval headquarters in Sevastopol and putting the Russian fleet in danger throughout the entirety of Crimea.
Storm Shadow has proven to be a very effective weapon for Ukraine, according to military expert, former British Army officer, and CEO of Sibylline Consulting Justin Crump. Storm Shadow strikes precisely against well-defended targets.
