Skywatchers in Southern California were treated to an unexpected sight on Tuesday morning when they noticed a streak of light across the night sky. Many were curious as to what caused the unusual phenomenon.
Nonetheless, representatives of the US military force detailed the specifics of the light streak that astounded hundreds of individuals.
The debris from a Chinese spacecraft is what generated the light streak across the skyline of Los Angeles, according to a statement from the US Space Command.
People posted multiple videos of the lightning streak on social media after the space debris sightings were widely publicized.
“US Space Command can confirm the People’s Republic of China SZ-15 Module, SCC# 56873, re-entered space,” a US Space Command spokeswoman told Fox 11.
The Chinese Shenzhou module, which was used to send Beijing astronauts into space in November 2022, is predicted to crash into the Pacific Ocean, according to a US non-profit organization called Aerospace Corp.
Many believed it was some sort of related hardware as Elon Musk’s SpaceX continued to launch its Falcon 9 rocket to put satellites into space.
