ISLAMABAD: Shehzad alias Shani, who was found guilty of killing a woman for turning down his marriage proposal, had his 25-year severe prison sentence reversed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The case has been remanded to the trial court for a retrial by IHC Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, who has instructed it to give specific justifications for not executing the convicted individual.
The IHC noted serious errors in the trial court’s ruling, stating that it did not provide an explanation for why the death penalty was not applied in a premeditated murder case.
The court emphasized that, in most cases, murder carries a death sentence, which can only be lowered to life in prison in some extraordinary situations.
The conviction was sentenced by the trial court in accordance with Section 302(c) of the Pakistan Penal
