At the 2025 Oscars, Paul Tazewell just made “Wicked” history!
The costume designer, who was in charge of dressing the actors and actresses in Wicked, became the first Black man to win the Best Costume Design award on Sunday, March 2.
The 60-year-old said in his acceptance speech, “This is simply incredible. I’m grateful for this important honor, Academy.
“My work on Wicked earned me the costume design award, making me the first Black man to do so. I’m really pleased with this,” he added.
Tazewell went on to say “Thank you everyone in the U.K. for all of your beautiful work, I could not have done this without you.”
