The third-person role-playing game (RPG) is about Kay Vess, a villain who was modeled after Han Solo, and is set between the events of the 1980 blockbuster The Empire Strikes Back and the 1983 movie Return of the Jedi.
After learning last week that The Acolyte, the House of Mouse’s most recent live-action Star Wars program, had already been canceled, Disney will be hoping for a hit.
Despite the film receiving an overall positive review from critics, the Acolyte was the target of angry fans who, among other things, complained about the film’s alleged slow pacing and rewriting of Star Wars history.
Accusations of being overly “woke” were also leveled at the $180 million (£137 million) program, which also apparently failed to draw in enough regular viewers to warrant a second season.
The French firm Ubisoft has previously created massively open-world games like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and their problematic most recent release, Skull & Bones. The game’s developers have a history of producing high-quality games, though.
