The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to grant a vacation of stay in instances involving bank windfall income tax brought in Rs11.5 billion for the national exchequer, which was a huge boost to the financially beleaguered government.
According to a statement released by the law ministry, the national exchequer received a total of Rs34.5 billion in benefits over the course of a month.
It further stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of economic reforms and the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) improved performance were responsible for this success.
The prime minister had requested legislation after learning of the stay order on instances pertaining to bank windfall income tax under the Finance Act 2023.
