Colbert earned the Olympic qualifying time and supported his world gold medal with a victory in the 400-meter medley.
Olympic 200-meter champion Tom Dean missed out on the men’s 100-meter freestyle final, which Richards won handily. Duncan Scott of Scotland earned the silver medal.
According to Richards, the pressure in that race was equal to that of an Olympic final.
I could have run a little bit faster, but I can’t really complain because it wasn’t the best race.
I completed the task and still have a lot of energy left for the summer.
There were only two spots available for each event at the Olympics, so Richards, the 2023 200m freestyle world champion, Dean, and Scott, the 200m freestyle Olympic silver medallist, all qualified faster than the required time. Scott, however, is in a strong position to take the second spot.
