Even though they are amateurs, Canada is ranked second in the world, trailing only England, who defeated them 26–19 in the 2022 World Cup semifinal.
Canada and England, who are both unbeaten in this year’s campaign, will face off in a WXV1 championship showdown on Sunday at BC Place in Vancouver.
“It is important to get a good gauge of where we stand going into that game,” Beukeboom said. “We have that belief [to beat England], but recently, England have been our biggest challenge.”
“We want to improve, but we also want to defeat England since we don’t frequently get to claim that we have.
Having an indicator of our current position in relation to the world’s best team will be helpful.
Our objective is to win the World Cup the following year, and we want to gain confidence by doing well in this competition.
Canada has participated in every Women’s World Cup, coming closest to winning it all in 2014 when they lost to the Red Roses in the championship match. They have also advanced to four different semifinals.
Unlike their primary World Cup competitors, each player has a contract with Canada Rugby that helps pay for travel, lodging, and other expenses.
