The Dodgers once again shown their superiority at the plate and on the mound, gaining an early lead that they never gave up, thus Yankee Stadium offered few home comforts.
Alex Verdugo’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning threatened an amazing comeback for the Yankees, who were behind 4-0 and down to their final batter, but it was too little, too late.
With a 2-0 lead at the top of the first, the Dodgers had bounded out of the starting gate as Shohei Ohtani.
Additionally, Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt was pulled before the end of the third inning after Mookie Betts drove home Tommy Edman for 3-0.
After stranding five Dodgers baserunners in the following two innings, the home team managed to stay in the game. In the fourth inning, Giancarlo Stanton recorded their first hit.
Stanton appeared to be on his way to scoring on a line drive by Anthony Volpe, but a fantastic throw from Teoscar Hernandez in left field caught him at the plate.
After Gavin Lux was hit by a pitch and swiped second base, Enrique Hernandez batted in Lux to give the Dodgers another run in the sixth inning, which was assisted by Walker Buehler’s five scoreless innings.
