The Kissing Booth actress married the 39-year-old actor after they met on the set of The Act, which he directed and executive produced.
Joey reportedly asked Steven out at the end of filming, and the couple married in August 2023.
The pair exchanged wedding vows at a civil ceremony in Los Angeles, followed by a party with friends and family in Mallorca, Spain, the following month.
Joey reflected on the past, telling PEOPLE, “I’ve never been afraid to tell people how I feel about them.” Not to say I wasn’t frightened when I asked my hubby out; I was terrified!”
“I was quite nervous, but I knew he would never do it because he was so courteous and lovely. I honestly had no idea whether he was interested in me or not. I knew if I didn’t, I’d be thinking about it forever. “I just had to do it,” she explained.
Joey also reflected on her wedding day in Spain, stating, “We had so much fun, and it was just such a wonderful day.” My mother prepared my bouquet from a dollar store. She went there, purchased all these artificial flowers and ribbon, and tied them up. It was so cute.”
