In a recent Facebook appeal for guidance, Owas Mwape, one of Zambia’s most well-known actors and filmmakers, broke a social taboo by acknowledging that one of his young boys suffers from a drug addiction.
In a socially conservative nation, the 52-year-old told the BBC he hoped to utilize his public persona to shed light on Zambia’s drug issues and assist other parents who are afraid of the stigma associated with raising a child who abuses drugs.
Mwape, a father of five sons and one daughter, stated, “I’ve found that most parents hide such kinds of things, they’re hiding their children.”
“It is present and right outside our doors. We are unable to escape it. As long as your kids are enrolled in school.
