KARACHI: The inclusion of a number of important sports in the 2026 Commonwealth Games has hurt Pakistan’s chances of winning the competition.
The announcement by Glasgow, the host city, that wrestling, hockey, shooting, cricket, and a number of other sports would not be included in the games drastically diminished Pakistan’s chances of winning gold.
Badminton, table tennis, squash, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, and mountain biking are among the other activities that are being eliminated.
One of Pakistan’s most successful sports at the Commonwealth Games has been wrestling, which has won 46 medals, including 21 gold. The country has consistently placed highly on the podium thanks to wrestling, so its withdrawal will have a significant effect.
