Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper will clarify the party’s commitment to place 13,000 PCSOs and neighborhood police officers “back on the beat in communities across the country” in her speech on Thursday. She will also state that there will be “guaranteed neighbourhood patrols” to guarantee that their presence is noticeable to deter crime and that they are able to apprehend offenders.
In addition, she promises to oversee a “hands-on Home Office” that will periodically evaluate the department’s performance in comparison to Labour’s “missions” for the government, which include tougher enforcement of anti-social behavior.
According to Ms. Cooper, 90% of crimes go unpunished under Rishi Sunak’s watch, and pickpockets, muggers with knives, and phone thieves can get away with it.
Ministers have not taken any action to combat the recent surge in organized crime that is affecting the streets and local businesses. The consequences of the Tory legacy on law and order are being felt in our communities.
“It’s time to stop. With 13,000 more neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs on the beat in our communities, tough new powers to crack down on those who cause havoc on our high streets, and a mission to reverse the decline in the number of crimes being solved, Labour will rebuild safety on Britain’s streets and reclaim our town centres from thugs and thieves.
