On the 19th day of the World Culture Festival, which has erupted into an artistic tempest in Karachi since its launch last month, a remarkable group of seasoned actors brought a reimagined version of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet to life at one of the Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) theaters.
The performance, titled Hamlet Ki Khudkalami – Interpretive Exploration, connects the seven famous soliloquies from Hamlet to contemporary Pakistani and worldwide settings.
This flawless rendition expertly combines thoughts from the present on individual and societal challenges with classic literature.
The 45-minute localized adaptation, directed and written by Peerzada Salman with an eye toward the present, explores the monologues of Shakespeare’s tragic hero, who avenges the death of his father.
