KARACHI: Although some say that there is a case to be made against raising the retirement age, raising it to 68 may not necessarily have an impact on any Supreme Court judges who are currently on the court.
This problem got more pertinent as news sources confirmed that the government may be launching judiciary-centric legislation today, intending to extend the retirement age of superior courts’ judges. Actually, the minister of defense, Khawaja Asif, has declared that the administration has enough members in the National Assembly to present a “constitutional amendment” today.
Article 179 of the Pakistani constitution states that a judge of the Supreme Court will remain in office until the age of 65, unless he resigns or is dismissed earlier.
