Have you ever thought about putting some salt in your tea?
The concept, put out by American scientist Michelle Francl, has sparked attention among the public and elicited a response from the US Embassy in London in addition to stirring the tea leaves.
Chemistry professor Michelle Francl of Bryn Mawr College delves into the complex chemistry involved in making the ideal cup of tea in her recently published book “Steeped: The Chemistry of Tea.” Francl’s research-based guidance promises an enhanced tea-drinking experience, from unlocking the mysteries of various tea kinds to answering the age-old quandary of when to add milk.
But it’s Francl who has created a special stir with his outlandish suggestion to add “a pinch of salt” to tea.
The dispute spread beyond the pages of Francl’s publication. Good Morning Britain broadcast the conversation while expressing shock at the idea.
The televised film went viral on the digital stage of X, which was formerly Twitter. Comments such as “A US expert says adding a pinch of salt is the answer to the perfect cup of tea” circulated. It seems criminal to do this.”
“Today’s media reports of an American professor’s recipe for the perfect cup of tea have landed our special bond with the United Kingdom in hot water,” the US Embassy in London sarcastically replied, adding to the mystery.
