The 52-year-old Evans was seen on camera putting his hand around Jones’s waist before she quickly pushed it off.
It went viral right away when presenter Claudia Winkleman announced that spectators could call the Strictly voting lines.
Social media users also posted a second video of Evans, who is well-known for his appearances in GoCompare insurance advertisements, attempting to high-five Jones and being turned down.
Jones brushed the matter aside as a “silly joke” on Monday night when he appeared on the BBC spin-off program It Takes Two.
Evans said earlier Monday, “I am absolutely devastated by the things that have been written about me in the past day,” in reference to Wales, where he hosts a show.
“It’s not pleasant to live in that era, but in essence, Katya and I are really close friends, and we made a dumb joke on Saturday night.
