Dr. Yasmin Rashid, a former provincial minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has written to Justice Yahya Afridi, the country’s chief justice, to draw attention to the persistent human rights abuses that have occurred over the last three years.
Women are turning to the judiciary for justice, she wrote in her letter.
Dr. Rashid, who is currently detained in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore in relation to cases from May 9, bemoaned the fact that she had not heard back from the Chief Justice after sending her first letter.
“PTI-affiliated women have been falsely implicated in terrorism cases, dragged by their hair, and subjected to violence for the past three years.”
