PESHAWAR: 88 terrorists have been slain in various counterterrorism operations since January 1, 2024, according to information released on Thursday by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP), Akhtar Hayat Khan.
In an interview with News, the KP IG stated that many terrorists had also been captured and that high-value targets had been among those neutralized during the operations.
The announcement from IG Khan coincides with the fact that terrorist attacks have persisted in KP and Balochistan, the nation’s southwest region, making its people susceptible to security risks in recent months.
The KP police chief emphasized that although peace and order has improved in Dera Ismail Khan and the combined districts of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), the terrorists will still be targeted by intelligence-based operations.
About the sacrifices made by the police in the war against terrorism, the officer stated that 41 officers had chosen to become martyrs this year in the effort to combat terrorism.
“The security of foreigners has been improved,” he declared in reference to the dangers to foreigners’ safety in the province that also saw five Chinese citizens—including a woman—killed in a suicide attack in Besham city, Shangla, last month.
Since the beginning of the year, KP and Balochistan have been responsible for more than 92% of all fatalities and 86% of attacks during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, including acts of terrorism and security forces operations.
