ISLAMABAD: After being found guilty in the infamous Toshakhana case, Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, was placed under house arrest at her Bani Gala home, according to a Wednesday night report from Geo News.
At the request of the superintendent of Adiala jail, the authorities designated the Bani Gala mansion as a “sub-jail” in order to detain the former first lady.
The decision in the case pertaining to the unlawful sale of state gifts was made public by Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court, who sentenced Bushra and Khan to 14 years in prison apiece.
The court fined the couple Rs 1.57 billion, or 787 million apiece, and also barred the former prime minister from holding public office for ten years.
In August of last year, the trial court sentenced Khan to three years in prison for selling gifts that he had acquired during his tenure as premier from 2018 to 2022, totaling over 140 million rupees ($501,000) in state custody.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the leading anti-graft agency, conducted an investigation and charged his wife in the case prior to Wednesday’s verdict, which was related to the same case.
Although Khan’s first three-year sentence was subsequently suspended, he is still incarcerated in relation to other instances. He claims to have legitimately bought the state presents.
According to government officials, Khan’s assistants sold the items in Dubai.
