Although Matthew Perry is no longer alive, hackers continue to use his X account to defraud people.
The worrying issue came to light when the foundation’s link to honor the late star through donations at his pinned post appeared to send social media users to a duplicate site where they are urged to pay in cryptocurrencies.
The Matthew Perry Foundation responded to the matter on Instagram, writing, “We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is directing users to a fraudulent site soliciting donations via cryptocurrency.”
The warning stated, “Please do not donate to this website or share the fraudulent posts on social media.”
Additionally, “MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the sole website linked with the Foundation, and we are only accepting donations through this site.”
“This is the only official Matthew Perry Foundation Instagram account, and we will only ever post official Foundation communications,” the post added.
