Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Shehbaz Sharif on his swearing-in as the country’s 24th prime minister.
“Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as Prime Minister of Pakistan,” stated the remark on the Indian prime minister’s official Twitter account.
President Arif Alvi delivered the oath to Shehbaz the day before, after the latter was elected prime minister on Sunday, returning to the top post after a 16-month tenure from April 2022 to August 2023.
This is the second time that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president will serve the nation as the premier, after receiving 201 votes over his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) opponent Omar Ayub Khan, who received 92 votes.Earlier, various world leaders and diplomats, including Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iran’s Ebrahim Raisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Cameron, US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome, and others, congratulated Shehbaz on his appointment as the country’s chief executive.
