On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices to the Ministry of Information and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) seeking the closure of social networking site X, formerly Twitter, in the country.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the petition against the closure of X, which has been mainly banned in Pakistan since February 17, with users accessing the famous site using VPN.
During today’s hearing on the plea, IHC CJ inquired, “Is X closed?”
At this point, the petitioner’s lawyer stated that X had been closed in Pakistan since February 17.
“This matter was also before the Sindh High Court (SHC), what happened to it?” Justice Farooq inquired.
The lawyer responded that the SHC will examine a petition for contempt of court. After this, Justice Farooq said that he was issuing notices for the next week.
