An old German man has apparently been vaccinated for COVID-19 217 times without having any ill effects, leaving physicians puzzled.
According to the BBC, a case reported in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal indicated that a 62-year-old German man received immunizations privately, against medical advice, within 29 months.
Researchers from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg discovered that the individual seemed to have experienced no harm.
“We learned about his case through newspaper articles,” Dr. Kilian Schober of the university’s microbiology department said. “We then phoned him and invited him to Erlangen for several testing. He was quite interested in doing so.”
The man donated new blood and saliva samples to researchers for testing. They also examined frozen blood samples.
Dr. Schober stated, “We were able to collect blood samples ourselves when the man obtained an additional immunization during the trial at his own request.
“We were able to use these samples to determine exactly how the immune system reacts to the vaccination.”
