Muhammad Ali, the legendary American boxer who died in June 2016, will ultimately be honored into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
According to ESPN, the organisation announced on Monday that the ceremony will take place on April 5 during WrestleMania 40 weekend in Philadelphia.
Ali, a sporting icon who died at the age of 74, served as a special guest referee in the first WrestleMania main event, which pitted Hulk Hogan and Mr T against “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff in a tag-team fight.
Ali, one of the all-time great boxers, threw a right hook to Piper’s chin, one of many unforgettable moments the heavyweight champion made at New York’s.
In 1976, Ali faced Japanese legend Antonio Inoki in the “War of the Worlds” exhibition bout in Tokyo, a semi-final event that is still remembered today.
The mixed-rules contest, judged a 15-round draw, was broadcasted to around 33,000 people at Shea Stadium, home of the New York Mets at the time.
