KARACHI: The victory of President Asif Ali Zardari’s daughter, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, on NA-207 has been deemed “controversial” by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), according to Sindh Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani on Sunday.
Speaking to media representatives in Karachi, the provincial minister stated that although the PTI media cell attempted to stir up controversy over everything, they would not succeed in doing so.
According to Ghani, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always won the Nawabshah National Assembly seat by a wide margin.
According to him, the PPP had a significant lead in winning the NA seat from Nawabshah even in 2018, when the PTI gained control of the center.
On March 29, Aseefa was declared elected to the National Assembly (MNA) in the Shaheed Benazirabad (formerly Nawabshah-I) seat. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) thereafter announced that there had been no opposition to her election.
It’s important to remember that 11 candidates, including Aseefa, submitted their nomination papers to compete in the by-election on the seat that President Zardari left. President Zardari took office following his joint nomination by the ruling alliance.
