Lok Sabha: Voting in sweltering heat with temperatures above 40 °C for Indians.

In order to combat the heat, 32-year-old Karan Shah and his 59-year-old mother will be carrying fruit and water bottles when they cast their ballots in the western state of Gujarat. They want to arrive at the polling place early in the morning in order to avoid long lines.

On Tuesday, millions of Indians will cast their ballots in 94 constituencies spread across 12 states during the third phase of the general election, which includes Mr. Shah and his mother.

Every five years, India holds its general election in April or May. Both voters and poll workers are accustomed to the intense summer temperatures. However, India and other Asian countries are having one of their warmest summers on record this year.

As the nation experienced scorching temperatures last month, at least nine people passed away from heat-related illnesses.

Federal Minister Nitin Gadkari passed out during a campaign rally in the western state of Maharashtra in April. He subsequently claimed that the packed house and sweltering heat were to blame for his discomfort. A television anchor passed out while giving weather updates a few days earlier in Kolkata, an eastern city where temperatures rose beyond 43C. Later on, she said that the studio’s cooling systems had failed and it had grown quite hot.
