Cheika, who led Leinster to victory against Leicester in the 2009 Heineken Cup final, resigned from his position with Argentina after leading the Pumas to a fourth-place result at the Rugby World Cup the previous year.

After managing French rugby team Stade Francais for a while, Cheika led Australian team Waratahs to a Super Rugby championship before taking the helm of the Wallabies.
After leading the Australian team for five years, he departed in 2019 to serve as Argentina’s assistant coach before taking over as manager in 2022.
He balanced his role as head coach of the Lebanon national rugby league team, which he led to the 2022 World Cup knockout round, with his work with Argentina.
For the first time in ten years, he is returning to club rugby with the Leicester Tigers.
