The incredibly rare 1966 Ford GT40 MkI Road Car is an iconic piece of automotive history, and collectors and enthusiasts are excitedly awaiting its auction.

With a potential market value of up to $7 million, this shiny dark blue beauty with a black interior and right-hand drive has been put up for auction through Mecum Auctions.

Regarded as one of Ford’s greatest creations, the GT40 is a unique vehicle in the annals of auto history. Mecum Auctions’ COO, Sam Murtaugh, emphasized the piece’s uniqueness by saying, “To put it in perspective, art collectors know that if they don’t act, it may never see the light of day again.”

Only thirty GT40 Road Cars were ever produced, and this beauty only has 13,442 kilometers on it.

Mecum Auctions is selling this stunning metallic dark blue vehicle with a right-hand drive, black interior, and an estimated worth of up to $7 million.

Known as one of Ford’s greatest works of art, the GT40 is a unique vehicle in automotive history. Its rarity was emphasized by Mecum Auctions’ COO, Sam Murtaugh: “To put it in perspective, art collectors know that when a Picasso masterpiece comes to market, if they don’t act, it may never see the light of day again.”

Under its fourth owner, this jewel has been kept out of the public eye for the past thirty years, with only 13,442 miles on the odometer. It is one of only thirty GT40 Road Cars ever produced.

The GT40’s power and classic look add to its appeal in addition to its rarity. Proud to have upset the Ferrari dynasty at Le Mans, France, the GT40 is cherished by motor lovers everywhere.

It was created to challenge the European manufacturers who dominated sports car racing, and Mecum Auctions described it as “perhaps the most successful and iconic American racing car ever built,” helping to shape automotive history.

The failure of a Ferrari and Ford agreement marked the beginning of the GT40’s rise to fame. In 1966, Henry Ford II put an end to Ferrari’s Le Mans dynasty with the GT40, his attempt to surpass Ferrari. The GT40 created history in American automotive consciousness by finishing the race in the top three positions in addition to winning it.
