For security considerations, mobile phone services in some areas of Punjab will remain temporarily banned on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
The Punjab Home Department spokesman stated that the cell service would only be cut off in the vicinity of Majalis and processions.
“Mobile services will be partially suspended in Gujranwala, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, Rajanpur, Faisalabad, Bahawalnagar, Hafizabad, Gujrat, DG Khan and Jhang.”
In the nation, Muharram began on July 8 following the sighting of the lunar month’s crescent. During Muharram, believers conduct majalis and processions throughout the nation, and hundreds of law enforcement officers are stationed to provide tight security while religious leaders speak to sizable crowds.
The spokesman made it clear that no city in the province will see a total suspension of cellphone service.
He said that on the ninth and tenth of Muharram, there will be a partial suspension of mobile signals from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The representative went on to say that 28 places in Rawalpindi, 15 locations in Rahim Yar Khan, 11 locations in Mianwali, and Bahawalpur will not be receiving cellular network coverage.
Ten locations in Layyah, seven locations in Muzaffargarh, and six locations in Nankana Sahib will continue to have suspended services in the meantime.
In Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Khushab, Sialkot, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, and Chiniot, the spokesperson believed that the cellular service will continue to operate.
