In response to “reporting in the national media, which is disparaging of Southend”, the police released a statement claiming that certain parts of the city are dangerous for young people who commit violent crimes.
On July 30, violence broke out close to Southend’s Adventure Island theme park, resulting in multiple arrests. Social media footage suggested that some of the participants were brandishing machetes.
A 16-year-old boy who showed up in court on August 3rd was among the eight teens charged with violent disturbance, possession of a firearm, carrying a forbidden weapon in a public place, and attempted murder.
Chief Superintendent Leighton Hammett issued the following statement: “I vehemently and totally deny the claim that any area of Southend is a ‘no-go zone.'”
Every week, thousands of visitors visit the city and have an amazing time taking advantage of everything it has to offer.
Southend is a really safe place, despite the impression that some people are attempting to give it. This area of the county has seen a decline in crime for some years, and it has done so more quickly than most other areas.
