It is encouraging that Bayern Munich’s seemingly unbreakable hold on the title was finally broken since it will make the forthcoming season and years in Germany more competitive.
Nevertheless, Bayern enter the 2024–25 season as favorites once more, despite their difficulties in the previous campaign. The season begins on Friday at Borussia Monchengladbach against Leverkusen.
Before Leverkusen’s unprecedented undefeated league campaign, the record 33-time champions had won 11 straight crowns. They have now made some major changes, most notably appointing Vincent Kompany as their new manager.
The former Burnley manager has shown promise in his first few weeks in command, despite without the usual Bayern managerial resume.
His possession-based style of play, which he demonstrated both at Anderlecht and in his Championship debut with Burnley, fits quite nicely with Bayern’s style.
Additionally, Kompany has enjoyed the pleasure of welcome Michael Olise and Joao Palhinha, two significant summer additions.
It’s interesting to note that Palhinha was the player Thomas Tuchel, Kompany’s predecessor, lusted after last season before a planned Fulham transfer fell through.
As the holding midfielder for the Bavarians, Palhinha appears to be the most formidable player in front of Bayern’s defense since Javi Martinez ten years ago.
