Mark Ronson has defended the much-discussed impending film Back to Black, which is about Amy Winehouse.
Ronson praised filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson and showed support for the biopic I’m Just Ken from Barbie when he won Best Song at the Critics Choice Award.
The only thing I know about the movie is that I’ve read the script and I know Sam quite well, so I think what it accomplished really effectively was It definitely captured that beautifully and brought to mind her comedy,” he remarked.
“One of her many talents, in my opinion, is her razor-sharp sense of humor, which they really captured in the movie. “I’m excited to see it,” he continued.
Amy and the Nothing Breaks Like a Heart singer were close friends until Amy’s untimely death in 2011. Additionally, he worked with the vocalist on her Back to Black album, which brought her two Grammy awards.
Marisa Abela’s choice to play the legendary singer in the upcoming biopic has drawn criticism from fans who point out the singer’s lack of likeness. Critics have also pointed out that Amy’s friends were not consulted by the producers in order to gain understanding of her persona.
“Nobody consulted us about Amy,” stated a friend. If they don’t know the real Amy or the facts about what actually occurred in her last years, how can it be genuine and accurate? We are angry and opposed to this. Amy was so captivating.
But Mitch, Amy Winehouse’s father, has approved the film and Marisa’s casting.
He declared: “It doesn’t really matter if they aren’t mirror reflections since Amy is Amy and Marisa is Marisa. Marisa is an excellent fit for the part.
“There’s too much emphasis on looks. Because there’s plenty of Hollywood examples of actors not appearing like their real-life character.
