According to the Israeli finance ministry, the cabinet of Israel has approved the revised 2024 state budget, which includes an additional $15 billion (55 billion shekels) in spending in response to the Gaza conflict.
After ministers opposed universal budget cuts, the legislation was approved.
“This is the war budget, which also takes care of the needs of our reservists, their families, the self-employed and government ministries and the needs of the public,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said before the vote.
“We are augmenting the health budget by one billion shekels to address the critical demand of mental health. The budgets for internal security, education, welfare, and defense have all been increased. However, the budget for defense has been increased the most, as it is crucial to both our future and our victory.
