A video of Jelly Roll getting sworn in by Sheriff Christopher Swanson as a Community Cares Task Force deputy surfaced earlier this week on a Detroit radio station.
On Saturday, 99.5 WYCD posted a video of Jelly Roll receiving his badge to their Instagram page.
It is also audible that Swanson says, “This is the real deal.” These days, you can identify yourself as a Genesee County deputy sheriff to everyone you enter a facility.”
Swanson and Jelly Roll have a history of collaboration, per Billboard. The artist assisted the sheriff in launching the Genesine County Jail’s I.G.N.I.T.E. Program, which enables prisoners to complete their GED while incarcerated.
News contacted Jelly Roll’s representative for comment, but they did not respond right away.
Jason Bradley DeFord, better known by his stage as Jelly Roll, has been transparent about his criminal past.
The country music artist revealed to Billboard in a 2023 interview that he was arrested at the age of 16 and charged as an adult with aggravated robbery and possession with intent to sell.
