ISLAMABAD Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of JUI-F, stated that he respects the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling on the interpretation of Article 63(A) of the Constitution, but cautioned against any “match-fixing” in light of the government’s attempts to establish a constitutional package that centers on the judiciary. The ruling was revoked hours later.
The Supreme Court unanimously granted a review petition against its 2022 finding about the defection clause, which prohibited MPs from voting outside party lines in parliament, in what was seen as a significant victory for the ruling coalition.
“We acknowledge the court’s decision, but match-fixing is not appropriate. During a press conference on Thursday in Islamabad, the JUI-F president stated that it shouldn’t be used as a means of buying or selling.
