During the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17, Samsung, a South Korean electronics manufacturer, showcased the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra smartphones, with the Samsung Galaxy AI taking center stage. With the help of the extensive toolkit and services offered by Galaxy AI, users can get more out of these smartphones. Notable features include the new Circle to Search feature, which is powered by Google, tools powered by artificial intelligence (AI) for text summarization and photo editing, and new live translation for calls and messages. Here are the specifics:
To Search, Circle
Circle to Search, a brand-new gesture-based feature from Samsung that uses Google, has been revealed. Users of the Galaxy S24 series can access this feature by holding down the home button for a long time.
In order to retrieve search results related to the chosen topic, users can then utilize circular, highlighting, scribbling, or tapping gestures on the screen instead of taking screenshots. Curated search results will be displayed next to overviews driven by generative AI in particular places.
AI-driven dialogue
To enable multilingual interactions in phone conversations, messages, and in-person interactions, Samsung has unveiled a number of AI-driven solutions. One tool that eliminates the need for third-party applications during phone calls is Live Translate, which provides real-time voice and text translations within the smartphone’s native calling application. Then there’s the new Interpreter feature, which makes it easier to translate in-person conversations in real time. It displays a split-screen view so that people facing each other can understand what’s being said. The Galaxy S24 series of smartphones come equipped with this feature, which works without the need for a live internet connection.
Another communication-related feature that uses AI to translate messages in real-time on compatible platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp is called Chat Assist, and it is integrated into the Samsung Keyboard. It also provides thoughtful recommendations for replying to messages and currently supports translations into 13 different languages.
Regarding generative capabilities—a novel concept in AI—Samsung offers Note Assist. The feature, which is integrated with the Samsung Notes app, generates headlines and subheadings, notes covers, and AI summaries for lengthy texts.
Another GenAI-powered tool is called Transcript Assist, which uses Speech-to-Text technology to translate, summarize, and transcribe audio. Moreover, the Galaxy S24 series gets the ability to highlight specific articles and summarize online content.
