PESHAWAR: Due to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s financial difficulties, sources told Geo News on Saturday that the province’s educational system may suffer as a result of the authorities’ decision to sell department-owned land.
According to the sources, the property purchased for the Bacha Khan Greater Educational Complex in Mardan would be sold to satisfy the landowners’ payments.
According to them, out of the 4,800 kanals set aside for the educational complex—which was supposed to contain four distinct institutions—700 kanals will be auctioned in order to raise Rs35 billion.
During the Awami National Party’s (ANP) administration in the province, this area was set aside. The Bachakhan Greater Educational Complex was to have four distinct buildings: Bachakhan Medical College, Abdul Wali University, an agricultural university, and an engineering university.
According to the sources, if the original owners are willing to buy back the land, the government will sell it to them; if not, the land would be put up for auction.
For the purpose of marking and selling the aforementioned land, committees from each of the four educational institutions have been established.
The government’s plan to sell the land was confirmed by KP Education Secretary Kamran Afridi in an interview with Geo News, citing financial constraints.
