The former England all-rounder suffered catastrophic face injuries in an incident while filming Top Gear in December 2022.
The 46-year-old has spoken publicly for the first time about the incident and its aftermath as part of the second season of Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, which premieres on news on August 13 at 21:00 BST.
“I don’t know what completely better is,” Flintoff stated in footage taped earlier this year.
“I’m who I am now. I’m not the same as I was. I’ll have to cope with this for the rest of my life. Better? No.
Flintoff, one of England’s most famous cricketers, played 79 Tests from 1998 to 2009.
He was crowned Sports Personality of the Year after playing an important role in England’s historic Ashes victory in 2005.
I should not be here.
Flintoff, well known as ‘Freddie’, transitioned from cricket to TV presenting at the twilight of his career, hosting Top Gear from 2019 until the crash three years later.
In the inaugural season of Field of Dreams, which aired in 2022, Flintoff returned to his birthplace of Preston to form a cricket team of kids who had never played the game before.
