Fawad Chaudhary, the former minister of communication, was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court on Monday in connection with his misappropriation case involving construction projects in Jhelum.
During the hearing of the case in which Chaudhry was detained by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in December of last year, the court granted the politician’s bail.
The lawmaker, who is still detained in Adiala Jail on judicial remand in connection with the aforementioned case, was granted release by IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri.
Advocate Qaiser Imam, his attorney, represented him in court.
The NAB prosecutor stated, “We have a witness who says that Fawad Chaudhary took a bribe of Rs500,000,” during the hearing on Chaudhry’s plea.
He was questioned by the Chief Justice of the IHC about how the NAB has jurisdiction over Rs. 500,000.
In response, the prosecutor stated that the NAB is gathering further information and that the case is still in the inquiry stage.
“I have sent letters to all pertinent organizations, including the National Economic Council’s Executive Committee (ECNEC),” the prosecutor stated.
