At the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, Iran defeated Palestine 4-1 in their Group C opener. The three-time champions’ football mastery was immediately followed by a show of solidarity from Iranian players and supporters.
Saman Ghoddos of Iran set up goals for Karim Ansarifard and Shoja Khalilzadeh in the space of 12 minutes, and Mehdi Ghayedi scored the third. However, Tamer Seyam gave Palestine a goal back shortly before halftime. But Sardar Azmoun put the game out of reach in the second half by making it 4-1.
