The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari declared on Tuesday that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will become the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) following the government’s decision to delay introducing the “controversial” constitutional package in Parliament.
Speaking on a private news channel, the former foreign minister declared, “Judge Mansoor will become the next chief justice—without a doubt, on October 26.”
The administration has stated that it has secured the “magic number” required to pass the law, however Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the JUI-F, has not supported the revisions, so the government has not yet introduced them in Parliament.
October of this year will see the retirement of current CJP Qazi Faez Isa.
