PESHAWAR: As the political impasse over the “controversial” constitutional package intensifies, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa pledged on Tuesday to vehemently reject the planned “anti-judiciary” legislation, calling it a “attack on democracy”.
The administration is determined to present the bill for a constitutional change that would alter the judicial and legislative systems, even though the opposition has intensified its efforts to oppose the contentious legislation.
The administration has not yet introduced the revisions in Parliament, despite assertions that it has secured the “magic number” required to pass the law, because JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman is not in favor of them.
The proposed constitutional revisions were pushed by the government in the midst of rumors that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa’s term might be extended.
