Azam Nazeer Tarar, the federal minister for law and justice, has endorsed the government’s recent move to outlaw the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the JCP’s proposal to name retired jurists as ad hoc judges on the Supreme Court, citing the Constitution’s provision for such appointments.
The federal minister expressed his support for the JCP’s proposal in a statement on Thursday, stating that the ad hoc judges ought to be chosen.
He said that MPs can bring up the topic of invoking Article 6 against the leaders of the party created by Imran Khan in the Parliament House for discussion.
“There is a genuine case of Article 6 against the PTI leaders as the Constitution was violated by dissolving the [Nationa] Assembly in the presence of a no-confidence motion.”
At a press conference in Islamabad on July 15, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced the PML-N-led government’s decision to outlaw the former ruling party and file treason charges under Article 6 against former president Arif Alvi and former prime minister Imran Khan for their roles in the dissolution of the National Assembly in April 2022.
The law minister stated that the decision to outlaw the PTI was not made just to preserve the political climate last year.
