Both the 31-year-old and Jack Grealish, a forward for Manchester City, are regulars in Gareth Southgate’s England team, but they are not on the final 26-man roster.
After suffering a calf injury in April, which prevented him from playing in United’s FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City last month, center defender Maguire has not fully healed.
The 63-time Three Lions player, external Maguire, announced on social media that he will not be playing in Germany.
“I’m devastated that I wasn’t picked to play for England at the Euros this summer,” he added. I’m trying my hardest, but I can’t seem to get over this calf injury. Perhaps I overexerted myself in an attempt to succeed. I am really completely devastated.”
James Maddison, a midfielder for Tottenham; Jarell Quansah and Curtis Jones of Liverpool and Everton; and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford have all been left out.
Being an England player is the greatest honour for me,” said Maguire, who was included in Southgate’s original 33-man roster. “To me, it is everything. Along with the rest of the nation, I will support the squad as a fan if I am unable to contribute to them as a player. Boys, go win it.
