KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has never backed any effort to outlaw a political party and encouraged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to “adhere to political norms”.
In an interview with the media on Wednesday in Hyderabad, the chief minister of Sindh stated, “PTI will have to review its role if it is demonstrating political behaviour or not.”
The chief minister led the main Ashura procession at Numaish Chowrangi in Karachi, according to a statement released by the CM House. Then he took a flight to Hyderabad, where he snapped pictures of the processions from above as well as took part in the Imambargah Mola Ali procession.
In response to a query, CM Murad stated that a political party does not become prominent by gaining support and votes.
The chief minister stated, “We [PPP] have not been consulted for the banning of PTI, but in actuality, the Pakistan Peoples Party has never been in favor of banning any political body.”
The chief minister of Sindh made his comments a few days after the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that the previous ruling party would be banned due to its purported involvement in anti-state activities, such as the May 9 events, and its attempts to undermine Pakistan’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The prospective action was revealed by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, who stated that Pakistan and the PTI “cannot co-exist” on Monday during a news conference.
