ISLAMABAD On Saturday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a case in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, alleging malpractice in the conduct of the general election on February 8.
The previous ruling party asked the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) to hold a comprehensive investigation after the top officials of the electoral body “failed to perform their duties” and filed a formal complaint against the CEC and ECP members for their “misconduct.”
Geo News was able to get a 29-page document that contained the complaint, which was filed by PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan through his attorney Barrister Ali Zafar.
The respondents in the complaint were CEC Raja, ECP members Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Babar Hassan Bharwana from Punjab, Nisar Ahmed Durrani from Sindh, Shah Muhammad Jatoi from Balochistan, and Babar Hassan Bharwana from Punjab.
In the event that the CEC and the ECP members are found to have engaged in misbehavior and are unable to carry out their duties, it was required that the SJC submit a report to the president calling for their immediate dismissal.
The opposition party claimed in its complaint that the election monitor had not carried out its constitutionally mandated responsibility to organize elections in a fair, just, and law-abiding manner.
