ISLAMABAD: The caretaker federal cabinet committee has approved the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline project, with intentions to finish it in a year, marking a significant development with the potential to strengthen the country’s energy security, The News reported on Tuesday.
On February 23, the federal cabinet authorized a summary through circulation to ratify an earlier decision by the Cabinet Committee on Energy to greenlight the project, which had been delayed for more than a decade.
The 1931-kilometer-long gas pipeline project is expected to be completed in one year and will cost $158 million. Out of the overall length, 1150 kilometers will be laid within Iran, with the remainder in Pakistan up to Gwadar.
