In accordance with the Supreme Court’s July 12 ruling in the reserved seats case, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared the 93 legislators in the assemblies of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh as “returned candidates” of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), bringing the party back to power in the legislature.
This happened a few days after the election monitor identified 39 PTI legislators from the National Assembly as PTI candidates.
In their records filed with the election commission prior to the general elections, these members—93 from the provincial assemblies and 39 from the National Assembly—had indicated their party affiliation.
The ECP published the announcement on its website earlier today. It states that six MPAs from Sindh and 29 PTI lawmakers from the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies have been officially recognized as PTI members.
