With effect from August 1, the Sindh government has authorized deputy commissioners to award handgun licenses. To this effect, a notification has been issued by the province administration.
The notification, which was released on Friday, stated that the ban on the issuing of weapons licenses at deputy commissioner offices in the province would be repealed effective August 1, 2024, with the consent of the Minister for Home, Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Criminal Prosecution, Sindh.
The caretaker government took away deputy commissioners’ authority to grant gun licenses last year.
The public’s desires and security concerns are perceived as the basis for the decision. The Sindh government hopes to facilitate and expedite the process of granting handgun licenses for its citizens by giving the deputy commissioners more authority.
